6:45 p.m. The Senate stands adjourned until 10:00 a.m. Thursday November 14th 2024. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of the Fung nomination, post cloture.

At11:30 a.m. the Senate will hold two roll call votes

  • 1. Confirmation of Cathy Fung to be a Judge of the United States Tax Court for a term of fifteen years.
  • 2. Confirmation of Executive Calendar #620 David Huitema to be Director of the Office of Government Ethics for a term of five years.

    At 1:45pm, the Senate will proceed to a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on Embry J. Kidd to be United States Circuit Judge for the Eleventh Circuit.

    6:40 p.m. Majority Leader Schumer started wrap up:

    • The following was passed by unanimous consent
      • H.R. 5464 – To name the Department of Veterans Affairs community-based outpatient clinic in Guntersville, Alabama, as the “Colonel Ola Lee Mize Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic”.
      • H.R. 7333 – To name the Department of Veterans Affairs medical center in West Palm Beach, Florida, as the “Thomas H. Corey VA Medical Center”.
      • S. 5314 – To Designate the Medical Center of the Department of Veterans Affairs in Tulsa Oklahoma as the James Mountain Inhofe V.A. Medical Center.
      • H.R. 5861 – BRIDGE for Workers Act
      • S. 1316 with Klobuchar Substitute Amendment – Servicemembers’ Credit Monitoring Enhancement Act

    6:36 p.m. By a vote of 58-37, the Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Cathy Fung to a Judge of the United States Tax Court.

    • GOP voting in favor – Cassidy, Collins, Cornyn, Cramer, Crapo, Murkowski, Risch, Romney, Tillis, and Young.
    • Senators Johnson, Sanders, Sinema, and Vance did not vote

    5:17 p.m. The Senate began voting on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Cathy Fung to a Judge of the United States Tax Court.

    5:10 p.m. Senator Welch spoke about Ukraine.

    4:56 p.m. Senator Daines spoke about Blackie Wetzel and the Washington Commanders.

    4:47 p.m. Senator Blackburn spoke about disaster recovery in North Carolina and Tennessee.

    4:36 p.m. Senator Schatz spoke about disaster recovery.

    4:35 p.m. By a vote of 50-48, the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of David Huitema to be Director of the office of Government Ethics was agreed to. Not voting: Senators Sinema and Vance.

    3:15 p.m. The Senate began voting on cloture on the nomination of David Huitema to be Director of the office of Government Ethics.

    3:14 p.m. The Senate confirmed the Halwey nomination, 50-46. GOP in favor: Murkowski. Not voting: Cardin, Cramer, Sinema and Vance.

    2:20 p.m. The Senate is now voting on confirmation of Jonathan Hawley to be a District Judge for the Central District of Illinois.

    2:17 p.m. Senator Peters spoke in support of the nomination of David Huitema to be Director of the Office of Government Ethics.

    2:15 p.m. The Senate re-convened.

    1:54 p.m. The Senate stands in recess until 2:15 p.m.

    1:54 p.m. By a vote of 50-48, the Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Jonathan Hawley to be a District Judge for the Central District of Illinois.

    • Republican Senator Murkowski voted in favor
    • Senators Cardin and Sinema did not vote

    12:32 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to invoke cloture on nomination of Jonathan Hawley to be a District Judge for the Central District of Illinois.

    12:28 p.m. Senator Durbin spoke on judicial nominations.

    12:18 p.m. Majority Leader Schumer congratulated Senator Thune for being elected as next leader of Senate Republicans. He then spoke about antisemitic posters at the University of Rochester, government funding, the NDAA, the farm bill, judicial nominations and welcomed the new democrat Senators.

    12:00 p.m. The Senate convened.

    The Senate will convene at 12:00 noon. At 12:30 p.m. the Senate will proceed to a vote on cloture on the nomination of Jonathan Hawley to be a District Judge for the Central District of Illinois.

    Following the vote the Senate will recess for the weekly caucus luncheons.

    At 2:30 p.m., if cloture is invoked, the Senate will proceed to two roll call votes on the following:
    1. Confirmation of the Hawley nomination.
    2. Cloture on the nomination of David Huitema to be Director of the Office of Government Ethics.
