8:03 p.m. The Senate stands adjourned until 10:00 a.m. Thursday April 3rd, 2025. Following Leadership remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of H.J. Res. 24, Energy Conservation Standards for Walk-in Coolers and Walk-in Freezers.

At 11:00 a.m. the Senate will hold three roll call votes on the following:

  • Passage of H.J.Res.24, Energy Conservation Standards for Walk-In Coolers and Walk-In Freezers.
  • Confirmation of Dean Sauer to be Solicitor General of the United States.
  • Cloture on Mehmet Oz to be Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

At 2:30 p.m. the Senate is expected to proceed to four roll call votes on the following:

  • Motion to discharge from the Foreign Relations Committee S.J.Res.33, Sanders Resolution of Disapproval of Arms Sales (Israel).
  • Motion to discharge from the Foreign Relations Committee, S.J.Res.26, Sanders Resolution of Disapproval of Arms Sales (Israel).
  • Confirmation of Mehmet Oz to be Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
  • Confirmation of Harmeet Dhillon to be an Assistant Attorney General.

8:03 p.m. By a vote of 51-46, the Senate agreed to H.J.Res.24, Energy Conservation Standards for Walk-in Coolers and Walk-in Freezers.

  • The vote was party line with Senators Graham, Murray and Wicker not voting.

7:37 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to proceed to H.J.Res.24, Energy Conservation Standards for Walk-in Coolers and Walk-in Freezers.

7:36 p.m. By a vote of 51-48, the Senate passed S. J. Res. 37, a joint resolution terminating the national emergency declared to impose duties on articles imported from Canada. Republicans voting in favor: Collins, McConnell, Murkowski and Paul. Not voting: Marshall.

7:00 p.m. The Senate is now voting on passage of S.J.Res.37, a joint resolution terminating the national emergency declared to impose duties on articles imported from Canada.

6:54 p.m. Senator Kaine spoke in favor of S.J.Res.37.

6:49 p.m. Senator Crapo spoke against S.J.Res.37.

5:22 p.m. Senators Klobuchar, Welch, Shaheen, Warner, Van Hollen, Blumenthal, Markey, Whitehouse, Coons, and Democratic Leader Schumer spoke in favor of S.J.Res.37.

5:08 p.m. Senator Padilla spoke on tariffs. He asked unanimous consent that the Senate adopt his concurrent motion to S.J.Res.37. Senator Crapo spoke against it and objected.

5:02 p.m. Senator Alsobrooks asked unanimous consent for the passage of S. 959, the Tariff Transparency Act. Senator Crapo spoke against the bill and objected.

4:54 p.m. Majority Leader Thune scheduled the confirmation votes of the Sauer and Dhillon nominations to be at a time to be determined by the two Leaders on Thursday, April 3. He then spoke on border security.

3:58 p.m. Senator Kennedy spoke on Ukraine and Canada.

3:28 p.m. Senator Paul called up S.J. Res. 37, and then spoke on taxes and tariffs.

3:27 p.m. By a vote of 52-45, the Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Harmeet Dhillon to be an Assistant Attorney General. The vote was party line and Senators Durbin, Murkowski and Murray did not vote.

2:55 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Harmeet Dhillon to be an Assistant Attorney General.

2:53 p.m. By a vote of 53-46 the Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Dean Sauer to be Solicitor General of the United States. The vote was party line with Senator Murray not voting.

2:22 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Dean Sauer to be Solicitor General of the United States.

2:05 p.m. Senator Lankford spoke on unemployment. He then asked unanimous consent to pass H.R.1156, the Pandemic Unemployment Fraud Enforcement Act. Senator Wyden spoke against it and requested a modification to add the Wyden substitution amendment; Senator Lankford objected. Senator Wyden then objected to the original UC request.

1:45 p.m. Senator Ricketts, Budd, Hoeven, and Lankford spoke on fentanyl.

1:36 p.m. In her maiden address, Senator Moody spoke on the opioid crisis.

1:07 p.m. Senator Durbin spoke on the economy and President Trump’s policies.

12:51 p.m. Senator Wyden spoke in favor of S.J.Res.37, a joint resolution terminating the national emergency declared to impose duties on articles imported from Canada. He then asked unanimous consent for the Senate to pass S.1185, a bill to amend the Tariff Act of 1930; Senator Tuberville objected.

12:30 p.m. Senator Kaine spoke about tariffs.

12:02 p.m. Senator Collins spoke about tariffs.

11:30 a.m. Senator Blackburn spoke about DOGE, the border, and the budget.

The Senate convenes at 10:00 a.m. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session and resume consideration of the nomination of Dean Sauer to be Solicitor General of the United States.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., the Senate will proceed to two roll call votes relative to the following:

  1. Motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Dean Sauer to be Solicitor General of the United States.
  2. Motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Harmeet Dhillon to be an Assistant Attorney General.

If cloture is invoked on the Sauer or Dhillon nominations, at a time to be determined by the Majority Leader, in consultation with the Democratic Leader, during today’s session, the Senate will proceed to two roll call votes relative to the following:

  1. Confirmation of the nomination of Dean Sauer to be Solicitor General of the United States.
  2. Confirmation of the nomination of Harmeet Dhillon to be an Assistant Attorney General.

Also during today’s session, the Senate is expected to execute the order with respect to S.J.Res.37, a joint resolution terminating the national emergency declared to impose duties on articles imported from Canada.

Additional votes are expected.
