12:04 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke on President-elect Trump’s cabinet nominees, border policies, crime, and on his Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. He then spoke on America’s relationship with China, the domestic energy sector, and national security. Finally, he spoke on the federal budget.

11:34 a.m. Senator Barrasso spoke about national security.

11:21 a.m. Democratic Leader Schumer spoke about security following the attack in New Orleans, the explosion in Las Vegas and then in support of increasing spending in UASI. He then paid tribute to former President Jimmy Carter and spoke about the 119th congress.

11:14 a.m. Majority Leader Thune received consent for the Senate to recess from 12:30 to 2:15 for the weekly caucus lunches.
