The Senate stands adjourned until 10:00am on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Following Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session and resume consideration of Executive Calendar #13 Margaret R. Guzman, of Massachusetts, to be United States District Judge for the District of Massachusetts, post-cloture.

At approximately 11:30am, the Senate will vote on confirmation of the Guzman nomination and cloture on the Lawless nomination (IL District Judge).

At approximately 2:15pm, the Senate will vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the Grey nomination (MI District Judge). Following the cloture vote, the Senate will proceed to Legislative Session and proceed to the immediate consideration of H.J.Res.30, providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Labor relating to “Prudence and Loyalty in Selecting Plan Investments and Exercising Shareholder Rights”.

At approximately 4:00pm, the Senate will vote on passage of the joint resolution and on the motion to invoke cloture on the Simmons nomination (CA District Judge).

Cloture has been filed on the following nominations:

1.      Executive Calendar #13 Margaret R. Guzman, of Massachusetts, to be United States District Judge for the District of Massachusetts

2.      Executive Calendar #24 Colleen R. Lawless, of Illinois, to be United States District Judge for the Central District of Illinois

3.      Executive Calendar #35 Jonathan James Canada Grey, of Michigan, to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan

4.      Executive Calendar #39 James Edward Simmons, Jr., of California, to be United States District Judge for the Southern District of California

5.      Executive Calendar #40 Gordon P. Gallagher, of Colorado, to be United States District Judge for the District of Colorado

5:40 p.m. The Senate is currently voting on the motion to invoke cloture on Margaret R. Guzman to be United States District Judge for the District of Massachusetts.

5:30 p.m. The Martinez-Olguin nomination was confirmed by a roll call vote of 49-48 with Vice President Harris casting the tie breaking vote.

4:26 p.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on confirmation of Araceli Martinez-Olguin.

4:17 p.m. Senator Cantwell spoke in support of the Whitehead nomination.

3:56 p.m. Senator Blackburn spoke on Judicial nominee Michael Delaney and the border.

3:51 p.m. By a vote of 48-47, the Senate invoked cloture on Araceli Martinez-Olguin to be US District Judge for the Northern District of CA.

2:53 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to invoke cloture on Araceli Martinez-Olguin to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of California.

2:53 p.m. By a vote of 51-43, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Jamal N. Whitehead to be US District Judge for the Western District of Washington.

Republicans voting in favor: Senators Collins, Graham and Murkowski.

2:15 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the confirmation of Jamal N. Whitehead to be US District Judge for the Western District of Washington.

1:06 p.m. The Senate stands in recess until 2:15 p.m.

1:06 p.m. By a vote of 51-43, the Senate invoked cloture on the Whitehead nomination. Republican senators voting in favor: Collins, Graham, and Murkowski. Senators not voting: Budd, Crapo, Feinstein, Fetterman, Merkley, and Tillis.

12:19 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to invoke cloture on Jamal N. Whitehead to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Washington.

12:19 p.m. By a vote of 52-41, the Senate confirmed Jamar K. Walker to be US District Judge for the Eastern District of VA.

  • GOP YEA – Collins, Graham, Grassley, Kennedy, and Murkowski
  • Not Voting – Budd, Crapo, Feinstein, Fetterman, Merkley, Sanders and Tillis.

11:27 a.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on confirmation of Jamar K. Walker to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia.

10:43 a.m. Senator Thune spoke about student loan forgiveness.

10:28 a.m. Republican Leader McConnell spoke on retirement savings and crime in Washington DC.

10:15 a.m. Majority Leader Schumer had S. 532 read for the second time. He then spoke on China, Ukraine, student debt relief, chips and science, and the train derailment in East Palestine Ohio.

10:00 a.m. The Senate convened.

The Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. and following any Leader remarks will resume consideration of the nomination of Jamar Walker to be US District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia.

There will be two votes at approximately 11:30 a.m.:
1. Confirmation of the Walker nomination
2. Cloture on the nomination of Jamal Whitehead to be US District Judge for the Western District of Washington.

Following the Whitehead vote, the Senate will recess until 2:15 p.m. to allow for the weekly caucus luncheons.

There will be two votes at approximately 2:15 p.m.:
1.Confirmation of the Whitehead nomination.
2. Cloture on the nomination of Araceli Martinez-Olguin to be US District Judge for the Northern District of California.

There will be two votes at approximately 4:30 p.m.:
1. Confirmation of the Martinez-Olguin nomination.
2. Cloture on the nomination of Margaret Guzman to be US District Judge for the District of Massachusetts.
