3:30 p.m. The Senate adjourned, under the provisions of S. Res. 813, and will reconvene at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16. They will resume consideration of the nomination of Kevin Ritz to be Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit. The Senate will vote on confirmation of the Ritz nomination at 5:30 p.m.

During wrap-up:

  • Passed, S. 2120, Direct the Attorney General to include a data field in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System to indicate whether the last known location of missing person was confirmed or suspected to have been on federal land.
  • Agreed to, S. Res. 813, honoring the life of Steven Symms, former U.S. Senator for Idaho
  • Agreed to, S. Res. 814, September 2024 as National Literacy Month.
  • First reading, H.R. 820, an act to direct the FCC to publish a list of entities that hold authorizations, licenses, issued by the commission and have certain foreign ownership.

2:42 p.m. Senator Lankford spoke about immigration policy.

2:29 p.m. By a vote of 49-42, the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Kevin Ritz to be Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit was agreed to.

1:39 p.m. The Senate began voting on cloture on the nomination of Kevin Ritz to the 6th circuit.

1:28 p.m. Senator Blackburn spoke on the pending nomination of Kevin Ritz to the 6th Circuit.

1:07 p.m. Majority Leader Schumer filed cloture on the nomination of Mary Costello to be a District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
He then spoke on access to IVF and announced the Senate will vote on a bill on that topic next week.

12:40 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about the Senate schedule this past year and government funding.

12:39 p.m. By a vote of 54-41 , The Senate confirmed Laura Margarete Provinzino to be United States District Judge for the District of Minnesota.

Republicans in favor: Collins, Cramer, Graham, and Murkowski. Senators Ernst, Kennedy, Rosen, Rounds, and Vance did not vote.

11:31 a.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on confirmation of the nomination of Laura Margarete Provinzino to be United States District Judge for the District of Minnesota.

11:17 a.m. Senator Schatz spoke on appropriations.

10:59 a.m. Senator Thune spoke about the Farm bill and the achievements of South Dakotans.

10:43 a.m. Senator Durbin spoke about drug costs, Medicare, Venezuela and judicial nominations.
