4:30 p.m. The Senate adjourned and will reconvene at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10. They will resume consideration of the nomination of Lori Chavez-DeRemer to be Secretary of Labor. The Senate will vote on confirmation of the Chavez-DeRemer nomination at 5:30. Following that vote the Senate will vote on the motion to proceed to S. 331-the HALT Fenatnyl Act.

Senator Thune filed cloture on the following nominations:

  • Steven Bradbury to be Deputy Secretary of Transportation
  • Abigail Slater to be an Assistant Attorney General

Agreed to during wrap-up:

  • S. Res. 117-providing for member on the Joint Committee of Printing and the Joint Committee of Congress on the Library.
  • S. Res. 118-designating March 6, 2025 as National Slam the Scam Day.

3:35 p.m. Senator Murphy spoke about corruption.

3:10 p.m. The Senate agreed to the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to the consideration of S. 331, the HALT Fentanyl Bill by a vote of 82-12.
Democratic Senators voting no: Booker, Duckworth, Hirono, Markey, Merkley, Murphy, Schiff, Van Hollen, Warnock, Warren, Welch, and Wyden.
Senators not voting: Cramer, Fetterman, Kelly, Lummis, Padilla, and Warner.

2:42 p.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to the consideration of S. 331, the HALT Fentanyl Bill.

2:38 p.m. The Senate agreed to the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Lori Chavez-DeRemer to be Secretary of Labor by a vote of 66-30.
Republican Senators voting no: Paul.
Democratic Senators voting yea: Bennet, Cortez-Masto, Gallego, Hassan, Hickenlooper, Kaine, Ossoff, Peters, Rosen, Schiff, Shaheen, Slotkin, Warner, Warnock, and Whitehouse.

2:11 p.m. By a vote of 53-46, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Troy Edgar to be Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security. Democrat voting in favor: Senator Peters. Senators not voting: Kelly, Lummis, Padilla, and Sanders.

1:35 p.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on confirmation of Troy Edgar to be Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security.

1:11 p.m. Senator Grassley spoke on the HALT Fentanyl Act.

12:14 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke on Ukraine and Russia.

12:05 p.m. Senator Markey spoke about public education and the Department of Education.

10:54 a.m. The Senate began the roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Troy Edgar to be Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security.

The Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. and following any Leader remarks will resume consideration of the nomination of Troy Edgar to be Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., the Senate will vote on cloture on the Edgar nomination.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., if cloture is invoked, the Senate will proceed to three roll call votes:

  1. Confirmation of the Edgar nomination.
  2. Cloture on the nomination of Lori Chavez-DeRemer to be Secretary of Labor.
  3. Cloture on the motion to proceed to S.331, a bill to amend the Controlled Substances Act with respect to the scheduling of fentanyl-related substances.

If cloture is invoked on the Chavez-DeRemer nomination, the confirmation vote on the nomination will occur at a time to be determined on Monday, March 10th.
