4:39 p.m. The Senate adjourned and will reconvene at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 31. They will resume consideration of the nomination of Matthew Whitaker to be the US Ambassador to NATO. At 5:30 p.m. they will vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination.

2:40 p.m. Majority Leader Thune filed cloture on the nomination of Matthew Whitaker to be US ambassador to NATO.

2:39 p.m. The Senate confirmed Paul Lawrence to be Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs by a vote of 51-45. Senators not voting: Kennedy, Rounds, Sanders, and Schumer.

2:03 p.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on confirmation of Paul Lawrence to be Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

1:59 p.m. Senator Murray spoke on January 6th.

1:42 p.m. Senator Blackburn spoke on the Department of Government Efficiency and asked unanimous consent for the Senate to adopt S. Res. 146, condemning violence against Tesla dealerships. Senator Murphy requested a modification to include adoption of S. Res. 42, condemning the pardons for individuals who were found guilty of assaulting Capitol Police Officers. Senator Blackburn objected to the modification and Senator Murphy objected to the original request.

1:18 p.m. Senators Whitehouse, Wyden, and Van Hollen spoke on taxes.

1:11 p.m. Senator Wyden spoke about corporate taxes and his investigation into Pfizer.

1:10 p.m. By a vote of 53-47, the Senate agreed to the motion to invoke cloture on Paul Lawrence to be Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs, party line.

12:20 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to invoke cloture on Paul Lawrence to be Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

12:19 p.m. By a vote of 52-48, the Senate passed S.J.Res.18, a joint resolution disapproving the rule submitted by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection relating to “Overdraft Lending: Very Large Financial Institutions.”

  • Senator Hawley was the only GOP senator voting against.

11:28 a.m. The Senate is now voting on passage of S.J. Res.

The Senate will convene at at 10:00 a.m. and following any Leader remarks, will resume consideration of S.J.Res.18, a joint resolution disapproving the rule submitted by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection relating to “Overdraft Lending: Very Large Financial Institutions”. 
At approximately 11:20 a.m. the Senate will proceed to a series of two votes:
1. Passage of SJ Res 18.
2. Cloture on the nomination of Paul Lawrence to be Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

At 2:00 p.m., if cloture is invoked, the Senate will vote on confirmation of the Lawrence nomination
