6:30 p.m. During wrap-up, Senator McConnell secured consent for the Senate to convene at 10 a.m., to resume post-cloture debate on the Rushing nomination, to recess for party luncheons from 12:30 p.m. until 2:15 p.m., and to conclude debate on the Rushing nomination at 4 p.m.
The Senate consented to steps to place these measures on the calendar under Rule XXII: H.R. 1112 and H.R. 8, on background checking procedures for firearms purchases; S.617, to extend certain expiring provisions of the tax code.
By consent, the Senate passed S.252, to promote Senator Dole to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army.
By voice vote, the Senate passed S.Res.92, to designate the first week in April as National Asbestos Awareness Week.
6:25 p.m. By a vote of 52 to 43, the Senate invoked cloture on the Rushing nomination. Vote split along party lines. Not voting were: Brown, Heinrich, Murkowski, Sanders and Sinema.
5:30 p.m Roll call vote began on cloture on the Rushing nomination.
