3:16 p.m. The Senate adjourned until 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 31st and will resume consideration of S.1,  Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act of 2019.

At 3:30 p.m. there will be a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on McConnell amendment #65 to S.1.

3:10 p.m. Senator Kennedy withdrew his unanimous consent request.

2:45 p.m. Senator Kennedy spoke on S. 1 and the need to protect the Kurds. Senator Kennedy asked for his second degree amendment to be read.

2:29 p.m. Senator Portman spoke about border security.

2:12 p.m. Senator Fischer spoke on military readiness.

2:06 p.m. Senator Thune spoke about the economy.

12:59 p.m. Senator Barrasso spoke about the partial government shutdown and about the economy.

12:51 p.m. Senator Blunt spoke about the Middle East bill.

12:37 p.m. Senator Roberts spoke about his bill to facilitate the location of endangered persons through their electronic devices.

12:15 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about the Middle East bill.

12:03 p.m. Majority Leader McConnell spoke about the Middle East security bill. He spoke about recent history in Iraq and Syria. He spoke about Democratic legislative initiatives.

The Senate will convene at 12:00 p.m., and following any Leader remarks will resume consideration of S.1, the middle east security bill.

On Tuesday, Majority Leader McConnell filed cloture on the his sense of the Senate amendment regarding withdrawal of United States forces from Syria and Afghanistan (#65).

No roll call votes are expected in the Senate today.

Absent a time agreement, the cloture vote on the amendment will occur one hour after the Senate convenes on Thursday.
