6:25 p.m. ML McConnell asked u.c. to agree to S.Res. 369, a resolution to constitute the majority party’s membership on committees for the One Hundred Fifteenth Congress, Second Session and S.Res. 370, a resolution to constitute the minority party’s membership on committees for the One Hundred Fifteenth Congress, Second Session.

6:04 p.m. Senator Brown spoke about CHIP funding.

5:21 p.m. Senators Whitehouse and Blumenthal spoke about election interference.

4:50 p.m. Senator Moran spoke about the Farm bill.

4:25 p.m. Senator Donnelly spoke on heath care legislation, specifically SCHIP and the medical device tax.

4:00 p.m. Senator Sanders spoke in morning business about the need to pass DACA.

3:05 p.m. Senator Hatch paid tribute to several staff members leaving the Finance Committee.

3:04 p.m. Cloture was invoked on the Parker nomination 96-1.

Senator Hirono voted against.

Senators Cruz, Isakson and McCain did not vote.

2:47 p.m. Roll call vote began on cloture on the nomination of Thomas Parker to be US District judge for the Western District of Tennessee.

2:45 p.m.  The Campbell nomination was confirmed 97-0.

Senators not voting: Cruz, Isakson and McCain.

2:16 p.m. The Senate began voting on confirmation of the nomination of William Campbell to be a U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Tennessee.

2:15 p.m. Senator Alexander spoke supporting the Campbell nomination.

12:24 p.m. The Senate stands in recess until 2:15 p.m. to accomodate the weekly caucus luncheons.

12:14 p.m. Senator Thune spoke on the national security challenges facing our country.

11:29 a.m. Senators Blumenthal and Portman spoke about sex trafficking.

10:44 a.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about tax reform.

10:26 a.m. Senator Schumer spoke about government funding and immigration.

10:03 a.m. ML McConnell spoke about tax reform and the economy.

  • The Senate will convene at 10:00am and resume consideration of the nomination of William L. Campbell, Jr., to be a United States District Judge for the Middle District of Tennessee, post-cloture.
  • The Senate will recess from 12:30pm until 2:15pm to allow for the weekly caucus luncheons.
  • At 2:15pm, the Senate will proceed to a roll call vote on confirmation of the Campbell nomination.
  • Following disposition of the Campbell nomination, the Senate will proceed to a roll call vote on the  motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Thomas Lee Robinson Parker to be a United States District Judge for the Western District of Tennessee.
  • Senator McConnell has also filed cloture on the following nominations:
  • Michael Lawrence Brown to be a United States District Judge for the Northern District of Georgia
  • Walter David Counts III, to be a United States District Judge for the Western District of Texas

The cloture petitions on each nomination will ripen one at a time, after disposition of the previous nomination. Each is subject to up to thirty hours of post-cloture debate.
