The Senate has adjourned until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 9th.  At 2:15 p.m. a confirmation vote is expected on the Campbell nomination. The Senate will recess from 12:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. for weekly caucus lunches.

During wrap-up:

  1. R. 3759, RAISE Family Caregivers Act, was passed by voice vote.
  2. 1425, Bring Small Businesses Back Tax Reform Act, the Wicker amendment and the committee reported substitute, were passed by unanimous consent.

6:33 p.m. Senator Flake spoke about immigration.

6:13 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about Iran and North Korea.

6:11 p.m. The cloture motion on the Campbell nomination was invoked by a vote of 89 to 1. Senator Hirono voted no. Senators that did not vote: Alexander, Corker, Cruz, Donnelly, Isakson, McCain, Perdue, Roberts, Tester, and Toomey.

5:30 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of William Campbell to be US District Judge for Middle District of Tennessee.

4:46 p.m. Senator Hatch spoke about Iran and paid tribute to Thomas S. Monson of the Church of Latter Day Saints.

4:27 p.m. Senator Lankford spoke about immigration.

4:16 p.m. Senator Cotton spoke about immigration.

4:01 p.m. Senator Tillis spoke about immigration.

3:49 p.m. Senator Grassley spoke about immigration.

3:18 p.m. Senator Wyden spoke about the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

The Senate will convene at 3:00 p.m. and resume consideration of the nomination of William Campbell to be a United States District Judge for the Middle District of Tennessee.

At 5:30 p.m., the Senate will proceed to a cloture vote on the Campbell nomination.

Majority Leader McConnell has filed cloture on the following nominations:

o Thomas Parker to be a United States District Judge for the Western District of Tennessee
o Michael Brown to be a United States District Judge for the Northern District of Georgia
o Walter Counts, to be a United States District Judge for the Western District of Texas

The cloture petitions on each nomination will ripen one at a time, after disposition of the previous nomination. Each is subject to up to thirty hours of post-cloture debate.
