6:20 p.m. The Senate stands adjourned until 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017.

6:06 p.m. Senator Durbin spoke on Trump’s proposed budget.

6:00 p.m. Leader McConnell said the Senate will be in at 10:00 am on Wednesday and resume the nomination of John Sullivan to be Deputy Secretary of State, post cloture.

5:10 p.m. Senator Cruz spoke on the 50th anniversary of Jerusalem Day.

4:45 p.m. Senator Cassidy spoke on healthcare.

  • The Senate is considering the nomination of John Sullivan to be Deputy Secretary of State, post cloture.  

Cloture has also been filed on the following nominations: 

  • Amul Thapar to be U.S. Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit.
  • Courtney Elwood to be general counsel of the CIA.

4:02 p.m. Senator Franken spoke about healthcare.

3:09 p.m. Senator Cantwell spoke about Medicaid.

2:33 p.m. Senators Udall and Thune spoke on health care.

2:15 p.m. The Senate returned from the recess.  Senator Hatch spoke about internet privacy and in support of the Sullivan nomination.

12:32 p.m. The Senate recessed until 2:15 p.m.

11:57 a.m. Senator Cotton spoke about the Little Rock 9.

11:50 a.m. Senator Casey gave a staff tribute.

11:34 a.m. Senator Lee spoke about the need to repeal the FCC’s 2015 open Internet order.

11:33 a.m. Cloture was invoked on the Sullivan nomination by a vote of  93-6.  Senators voting no: Booker, Duckworth, Gillibrand, Harris, Sanders and Warren.   Senator Isakson did not vote.

11:00 a.m. The cloture vote began on the Sullivan nomination.

10:47 a.m. Senator Cardin spoke in favor to the Sullivan nomination. He spoke about the Manchester attack. He spoke about the budget.

10:36 a.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about the budget. He spoke about border security.

10:21 a.m. Minority Leader Schumer spoke about the attack in Manchester. He spoke about the investigation of Russia’s involvement in the presidential election. He spoke about the budget proposal.

10:03 a.m. Majority Leader McConnell spoke about the terrorist attack in England. He spoke about the Trump administration’s budget proposal.

The Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. and resume consideration of the nomination of John Sullivan to be Deputy Secretary of State.

A vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Sullivan will occur at 11:00 a.m.
