3:59 p.m. Senator Peters asked u.c to immediately call up S. 141,  A bill to improve understanding and forecasting of space weather events, the bill was passed.

3:29 p.m. Senator Kaine spoke about the spending bill.

3:18 p.m. Senator Menendez spoke opposing the Clayton nomination.

2:57 p.m. Senator Daines spoke about the Montana agriculture summit.

2:22 p.m. Senator Thune spoke about about the economic situation as it affects farmers and ranchers.

2:15 p.m. The Senate returned from the recess.  Senator Brown spoke in opposition to the Clayton nomination.

12:27 p.m. Sentor Scott asked u.c. that at 5:20 p.m. post cloture time be expired and the Senate vote on the Clayton nomination and the Senate stand in recess until 2:15 p.m. in order to accomodate the weekly caucus luncheons.

12:15 p.m. Senator Warren spoke against the Clayton nomination.

11:07 a.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about the stabbing at the University of Texas, the recent storms that swept through Texas, the filibuster, and the appropriations bill.

11:03 a.m. Senator Cotton spoke about the roll back of midnight resolutions.

10:48 a.m. Senator Kennedy spoke about the flood insurance program.

10:37 a.m. Senator Barrasso spoke about the first 100 days of the Trump administration.

10:36 a.m. The Senate resumed consideration of the Clayton nomination.

10:29 a.m. Minority Leader Schumer spoke about the spending bill.

10:03 a.m. Majority Leader McConnell spoke about the spending bill. He spoke about the Clayton nomination.

The Senate will convene at 10 a.m. and will resume post-cloture consideration of the nomination of Jay Clayton to the Securities and Exchange Commission. If all time is used, post-cloture debate on Clayton will conclude at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Senate will recess today from 12:30 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. for weekly policy lunches.
