At approximately 2:30pm, the Senate will vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to the bill.
6:45 p.m. The Senate is currently voting on the Motion to proceed to Executive session for the consideration of Executive Calendar #3 Peter Hegseth, of Tennessee, to be Secretary of Defense. It was agreed to by a roll call vote of 53-45.
6: 20 pm The Senate is currently voting on the Motion to proceed to Legislative session. It was agreed to by a roll call vote of 54-46.
6:15p.m. Leader Thune asked unanimous consent to move to the nomination of John Ratcliff. He then filed cloture on the nomination.
6:04 p.m. Senator Cotton spoke on John Ratcliffe’s nomination to be the Director of the CIA; he then asked for unanimous consent to move to executive session on January 22 to consider Ratcliffe to be the Director of the CIA. Senator Murphy objected.
5:23 p.m. Senators Husted and Moody were sworn-in.
4:30 p.m. Senators Murray, Schumer, Durbin, Smith, Blumenthal, Wyden, Shaheen, and Cantwell spoke on S.6 – Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
3:51 p.m. Senator Kennedy spoke about George Soros and the FCC.
2:40 p.m. Senator Rosen spoke on the Israel-Hamas ceasefire and paid tribute to the hostages.
2:33 p.m. Senator Wyden spoke against the Ratcliffe nomination to the director of the CIA.

11:47 a.m. Senator Durbin spoke on immigration policies and pardons of January 6th defendants.
11:32 a.m. Democratic Leader Schumer spoke on the release of Ryan Corbett from the Taliban. He then spoke about President Trump’s agenda and cabinet nominations.
11:19 a.m. Majority Leader Thune spoke about President Trumps cabinet nominations and the welcomed new senators Ashley Moody and Jon Husted.
11:04 a.m. Senator Grassley spoke on human trafficking and student debt relief.

The Senate will recess from 12:30 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. to allow for the weekly caucus meetings.
Cloture has been filed on the motion to proceed to Cal. #4, S.6. Under the rule, unless an agreement is reached, the Senate will vote on this cloture motion one hour after the Senate convenes on Wednesday.
