1:36 p.m. The Joint Session having ended, the Senate stands adjourned until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7th, 2025.

12:40 p.m. The Senate stands in recess until the conclusion of the counting for the electoral ballots.

12:20 p.m. Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer spoke on his experience on January 6, 2021 and the certification of the election today.

12:19 p.m. Majority Leader Thune asked for the first reading of S. 5. the bill to require the Secretary of Homeland Security to take into custody aliens charged in the United States with theft and for other purposes (The Laken Riley Act). He then received consent that upon the dissolution of the Joint Session today, the Senate would stand adjourned until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2024.

12:08 p.m. Majority Leader Thune addressed the Senate to congratulate President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance. He then paid tribute to his former basketball coach, Jerry Appleby.

12:00 p.m. The Senate convened the 12:00 noon.

The Senate will convene at 12:00 noon and following any Leader remarks will be in a period of morning business.  We expect the Senate to recess at this point to attend the Joint Session.

Senators attending the Joint Session will gather in the Senate Chamber at approximately 12:40 p.m. and then proceed as a body to the Hall of the House of Representatives.

At 1:00pm, the Joint Session of Congress will convene in the Hall of the House of Representatives under the provisions of S.Con.Res.2, for the counting of the electoral ballots.

Upon dissolution of the Joint Session, the Senate will re-convene and be in a period of morning business.
