3:50 p.m. The Senate stands adjourned until 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 23rd, 2024. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of the Jenkins nomination.

  • At 5:30 p.m. the Senate will vote on confirmation of Rose Jenkins to be a Judge of the United States Tax Court.

3:35 p.m. Republican Leader McConnell spoke about members of his staff.

3:20 p.m. Senator Lankford spoke on the appropriations process, the NDAA, energy and the farm bill.

3:14 p.m. Senator Murray started wrap up:

  • Passed by Voice Vote: S. 288, End Tuberculosis Now Act of 2023, with the Cardin substitute amendment.
  • Passed by Unanimous Consent: S. 4698, DHS Joint Task Forces Reauthorization Act of 2024, with the Peters substitute amendment.
  • Received Unanimous Consent that if Senate receives, H.R. 9614 from the House of Representatives, the text of which is identical to S. 4539, the bill will be considered read a third time and passed.

2:37 p.m. Senator Murphy spoke on healthcare.

2:35p.m. By a vote of 76-15, the Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Rose Jenkins to be a Judge of the United States Tax Court.

  • Senators Blackburn, Marshall, Moran, Rounds, Schmitt, Tillis, Tuberville, Vance and Wyden did not vot

1:41 p.m. The senate began voting on cloture on the nomination of Rose Jenkins to be a Judge of the United States Tax Court.

1:35 p.m. Senator Braun paid tribute to 150 years of Purdue Engineering and passed S Res 830, recognizing that anniversary by unanimous consent. He then recognized the purple martin bird and passed S Res 803 recognizing the importance of the bird by unanimous consent.

1:29 p.m. Senator Cardin continued his remarks on project 2025.

12:55 p.m. In his maiden speech Senator Helmy spoke about working for New Jersey and specifically the youth mental health crisis.

12:50 p.m. Senator Murray spoke in support of H.R. 9468. She then asked for unanimous consent to pass H.R. 9438, The Veterans Benefit Continuity and Accountability Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024. It passed by voice vote.

12:50 p.m. By a vote of 47-47, the Senate did not adopt the Paul amendment #3289 (to rescind funds from the Department of Energy loans programs office) to H.R. 9438, Veterans Benefit Continuity and Accountability Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024. Democrats voting in favor: Brown and Tester, Senators not voting: Carper, Marshall, Rounds, Tillis, Vance and Wyden.

11:51 a.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on adoption of Paul amendment #3289 (to rescind funds from the Department of Energy loans programs office) to H.R. 9438, Veterans Benefit Continuity and Accountability Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024.

11:38 a.m. Senator Paul spoke on the VA and called up his amendment #3289 to H.R. 9468, Veterans Benefit Continuity and Accountability Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024.

11:21 a.m. Senator Sullivan spoke on the VA and asked unanimous consent for the Senate to pass S. 5074 A bill to require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide to Congress quarterly briefings on budgetary shortfalls of the Department of Veterans Affairs and to prohibit the provision of bonuses to Department of Veterans Affairs employees in Senior Executive Service positions in fiscal years with budgetary shortfalls, and for other purposes. Senator Murray objected and spoke.

The Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. and following any Leader remarks will resume consideration of the nomination of Rose Jenkins to be a Judge of the United States Tax Court.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., the Senate will vote on cloture on the Jenkins nomination.

The Senate may also consider H.R.9468, a bill making supplemental appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2024. Additional roll call votes are possible during today’s session.
