4:48 p.m. The Senate adjourned and will reconvene for pro forma sessions on the following days:

  • Monday, July 15 at 11:15 a.m.
  • Thursday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m.
  • Monday, July 22 at 11:30 a.m.

They will reconvene for regular business at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23. At 5:30pm, the Senate will proceed to a roll call vote on confirmation of Executive Calendar #621 Colleen Duffy Kiko to be a Member of the Federal Labor Relations Authority for a term of five years expiring July 29, 2027.

Senator Schumer filed cloture on the following nominations:

  • Executive Calendar #701 Kashi Way to be a Judge of the United States Tax Court for a term of fifteen years.
  • Executive Calendar #702 Adam B. Landy to be a Judge of the United States Tax Court for a term of fifteen years.
  • Executive Calendar #551 Margaret L. Taylor to be Legal Adviser of the Department of State.

The following bills had their first reading:

  • S. 4727, a bill to amend Title 5, U.S. Code to clarify the nature of Judicial Review of Agency Interpretations of Statutory and Regulatory Provisions.
  • H.R. 8281, an act to amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993

3:52 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about the Supreme Court.

3:45 p.m. The following legislation was passed by unanimous consent:

  • S. Res. 765-Remembering former Senator James Inhofe
  • S. Res. 766-Recognizing 9/15 as National Voter Registration Day
  • H.R. 1105-Amend the DNA Analysis Backlog Elimination Act
  • S. 159-Amend the Internal Revenue Code
  • S. 3068-require each enterprise to include on the uniform residential loan application a disclaimer
  • S. 4351-Amend the Public Health Service Act to reauthorize certain Poison Control programs

3:24 p.m. Senator Whitehouse spoke about the Supreme Court and the Federalist Society.

2:53 p.m. Senator Lee spoke on voting and asked unanimous consent for the Senate to pass H.R. 8281. Senator Padilla objected.

2:51 p.m. By a vote of 52-39, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Robin Meriweather to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims. Republicans voting in favor: Senators Collins, Graham, and Murkowski. Senators not voting: Blackburn, Capito, Daines, Marshall, Menendez, Romney, Scott (FL), and Tuberville.

1:22 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the confirmation of Robin Michelle Merriweather to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims for a term of fifteen years.

1:14 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke on prescription drug prices. He then asked for unanimous consent for the Senate to pass S. 150, with the Cornyn substitute amendment. There was no objection.

12:58 p.m. Senator Scott (SC) paid tribute to Senator Inhofe and spoke on the media.

12:54 p.m. Senator Moran spoke on the War Powers Act.

12:53 p.m. By unanimous consent, the confirmation vote on the nomination of Robin Michelle Merriweather to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims for a term of fifteen years will occur at 1:45 p.m.

12:51 p.m. By a vote of 48-46, the Cardin point of order with respect to S.J. Res. 89 (War Powers Resolution on Pier in Gaza Strip) was well taken and the Cruz motion to discharge falls. Democrat voting against: Senator Ossoff. Senators not voting: Capito, Daines, Markey, Menendez, Romney, & Scott (FL).

11:55 a.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on a point of order relative S.J. Res. 89, a joint resolution to direct the termination of the use of United States Armed Forces for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore pier on the coast of the Gaza Strip that has not been authorized by Congress.

11:40 a.m. Senator Cardin spoke about War Powers.

11:14 a.m. Senator Cruz spoke about his War Powers Resolution on Gaza Pier. He asked unanimous consent that the Senate proceed to and pass. H.R. 8369-Israel Security Assistance Support Act. Senator Welch objected. Senator Cruz made a motion to discharge S. J. Res. 89, War Powers Resolution on the Gaza Pier.

10:43 a.m. Senator Thune spoke on border security.

10:21 a.m. Republican Leader McConnell spoke on NATO, the Judiciary, and inflation.

10:08 a.m. Majority Leader Schumer spoke on abortion and the Supreme Court.

The Senate will convene today 10:00 a.m. Thursday July 11th 2024.

Senator Cruz is expected to make a motion to discharge S.J. Res. 89, Cruz War Powers Resolution on Gaza Pier, from the Foreign Relations Committee and the Senate is expected to hold a roll call vote at 11:45 a.m. on the motion.

At 1:45 p.m. The Senate is expected to proceed to a roll call vote on the confirmation of Robin Michelle Merriweather to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims for a term of fifteen years.
