3:11 p.m. The Senate stands adjourned until 8:45 a.m. Friday January 12th for a Pro Forma Session. The Senate will next convene on Tuesday November 16th 2024 at 3:00 p.m. Following leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of the motion to proceed to H.R. 2872, legislative vehicle for CR.

Senator Sanders is expected to raise a motion to discharge from the Foreign Relations Committee, S. Res. 504, A resolution requesting information on Israel’s human rights practices pursuant to section 502B(c) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.

At 5:30 p.m. the Senate is expected to hold two roll call votes:

  • Motion to discharge S. Res. 504 from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
  • Motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R.2872, legislative vehicle for the continuing resolution.

2:59 p.m. Senator Sullivan and Kaine spoke about Taiwan independence. Senator Sullivan then asked for unanimous consent for the Senate to agree to S. Res. 521, Commending Taiwan for its History of Democratic Elections and Expressing Support of Taiwan’s Democratic institutions. There was no objection.

2:55 p.m. Majority Leader Schumer started wrap up:

  • Majority Leader Schumer filed cloture on the Motion to Proceed to H.R. 2872, Legislative vehicle for CR.
  • S. Res. 522, A resolution authorizing testimony and representation in United States v. Todd was agreed to by unanimous consent.
  • S. Res. 523, Honoring the life and legacy of late Senator Herb Kohl, was agreed to by unanimous consent.
  • S. 2414, Working Dog Health and Welfare Act of 2023, with committee substitute amendment, was passed by unanimous consent

2:54 p.m. By a vote of 86-8, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Erika L. McEntarfer to be Commissioner of Labor Statistics, Department of Labor, for a term of 4 years. Senators voting no: Crapo, Cruz, Hawley, Kennedy, Lee, Risch, Schmitt, & Scott (FL). Senators Cantwell, Cramer, Manchin, Moran, Mullin, and Sanders did not vote.

1:39 p.m. The Senate began voting on confirmation of the McEntarfer nomination.

1:17 p.m. Senator Murphy spoke on Ukraine and immigration.

12:56 p.m. Senator Budd paid tribute to constituent and WWII veteran Harold Frank who passed away recently.

12:55 p.m. The Senate invoked cloture on the McEntarfer nomination, 88-8. Senators voting against: Crapo, Cruz, Hawley, Kennedy, Lee, Risch, Schmitt and Scott of Florida. Senator not voting: Cantwell, Cramer, Moran and Mullin.

11:45 a.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Erika McEntarfer to be Commissioner of Labor Statistics, Department of Labor.

11:20 a.m. Senator Cornyn spoke on appropriations.

11:10 a.m. Senator Schatz spoke on former President Trump.

10:54 a.m. Senator Thune spoke about South Dakota State Jackrabbits football team. He then asked for unanimous consent for the Senate to agree to S. Res. 519, Congratulating the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits on winning the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association. There was no objection.

10:29 a.m. Republican Leader McConnell spoke about the war in Ukraine and crime.

10:19 a.m. Majority Leader Schumer spoke about government funding, the CR, house republicans, artificial intelligence, winter storms and MLK day.

10:00 a.m. The Senate convened.

The Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. and following any Leader remarks will resume consideration of the nomination of Erika McEntarfer to be Commissioner of Labor Statistics, Department of Labor.

At approximately 11:45 a.m., the Senate will vote on cloture on the McEntarfer nomination.

At approximately 1:45pm, if cloture is invoked, the Senate will vote on confirmation of the McEntarfer nomination.
